The trend for canned wine has been popular in the US for many years and is growing in popularity in the UK too.
We love wine, but is this new way to drink wine actually any good? We think yes, and here are four reasons why you should swap your bottle of picnic wine this summer.
Convenience of Wine In A Can
We’ve all been there. Sitting down to enjoy your picnic and you have forgotten your corkscrew. With wine in a can, you can say goodbye to that problem. The cans chill much quicker than a bottle of wine, are super portable and light, plus you can take them to events and festivals that don’t allow glass.
Portion Control
Fancy a glass of wine but don’t want to open a whole bottle? The standard size wine can size is between 200 and 250ml which is the same size as a large glass of wine at a bar or pub. So two cans is half a bottle of wine, enough for many of us.
Sustainability
Canned wine uses less packaging than a wine bottle, there’s no label for a start! There’s also a reduced carbon footprint thanks to the aluminium cans having a far higher recycling rate than glass, and they are lighter to ship.
The Quality
But are canned wines any good? We say you shouldn’t underestimate the quality of canned wine. The majority of vineyards put the exact same product into cans as they do bottles so you know you are getting good quality wine.
It’s worth noting, that wine in a can is to be enjoyed soon after buying, and not one to be stored in a cellar.
