A delicious ripe fruit nose with touches of cherry and blackberries. On the palate there is a distinct herbaceous feel with a lightly dry finish.

Carmenere was for many years mistakenly thought to be Merlot, until re-identified in 1994 and officially recognized in 1998. Maule Valley is Chile’s oldest wine region, about 150 miles south of Santiago, and is mainly volcanic soils. Casa Donoso has 4 vineyard areas around the town of Talca.

Grape(s): 85% Carmenere 15% Cabernet Sauvignon
Area: From Casa Donoso’s vineyards around the town of Talca in the Maule valley
Vinification: There is a 3 day pre fermentation maceration at 8-100C, followed by a 5-7 day fermentation at 27-280C. There is a complete malolactic fermentation
Ageing: 30% of the wine is aged in French and American oak barriques for 8 to 12 months – depending on the nature of the vintage. The rest is aged in stainless steel vats. The wine is then bottled and given 3 months ageing before release.
