Giro d’Italia: Cycling and Italian Wine

Giro dItalia Route

There are few better marriages in the world than having the right beverage paired with the right food and your favorite sporting event.  And if it’s May, that sporting event has to be the Giro d’Italia.

The Giro d’Italia is a twenty-one-stage race that covers the majority of one of the most beautiful countries on Earth. It’s currently underway and will wrap up in Verona on the 29th of May.

There is no other sport in the world that showcases a country as well as cycling.  And when the race is passing through some of the best wine regions in the world, it deserves our attention!

You can see the full route here.

Stage 16 sees the riders following the roads of the Sforzato Wine. Sforzato’s main grape is Chiavennasca. A bit farther east, in the Piemonte region, this grape is called Nebbiolo, where it’s used in Barolo and Barbaresco.

The race concludes in fair Verona, so what better to celebrate with, then a chilled glass of Prosecco of course! And our favourite has got to be the Nosuga! Not only is it deliciously soft & creamy but Nosuga does its own “bit” to support the environment – with no label and back label packaging – so saving paper, the printing on the bottle is with lead free paint and 60% of the bottle is from recycled goods. Drink well and look after the environment!
