Getting ready to fire up that BBQ?

Sirloin Steak with Mushrooms, Bacon and Blue Cheese

If, like us you jump at the chance to fire up the barbecue (BRAAI!), then here’s a great recipe idea – quick, easy and versatile, even if you need to move the cooking inside!

Steak is a big favourite for our family – fabulous sirloin steaks from Taylors Butchers of Ashby and we’re ready to go.

If you’re looking for a wine to pair with red meat, then there’s no better choice than an Argentinian Malbec. We have the Finca El Origen Estate, Malbec, 2018, from the Mendoza region which is “best paired with leaner red meats, creamy mushroom sauces, melted cheese, particularly blue.”

The recipe we used is from the Weber Grills App – loads of recipe ideas available here – or try www.weber.com

Sirloin Steak with Mushrooms, Bacon and Blue Cheese

A Simple marinade of dry sherry, extra virgin olive oil, soy sauce and freshly ground black pepper – marinade the steak for around 30 minutes before cooking.

Served with a relish of portobello mushrooms, charred onion, bacon and crumbled blue cheese (we used Roquefort), thyme and flat leaf parsley.

Cook steaks to your liking, on either the BBQ or griddle, if cooking indoors.

We served our steak with Italian Roasties with Rosemary from “Simply Italian Cooking at Home with the Chiappa Sisters” green beans and tender stem broccoli.

We loved the flavour of blue cheese with the wine – a great pairing!
